Drum Instruction
It is a very difficult to learn the drums because of their loudness and the lack of opportunity to learn from an expert percussionist who has the patience to work a student through sticking, syncopation, and relaxed playing. Having been a classically trained percussionist who started at a very early age at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music one instrument at a time, from triangle to the snare drum, trap set, and timpani, I became an expert right away because of the quality of the instruction that I received. Finding no drumming courses being offered at my college, I created one and taught it some 40 years ago. I possess a drum set with state of the art heads that allow playing at very low volume so you are able to play without making a fuss! This includes the cymbals, which are mathematically designed in a Fibonacci pattern to minimize their sound. It is utterly remarkable to play such a drum set because the muscle movements are the same, just the sound level is different. I would be delighted to be your drum teacher and to help you immediately become aware of your existence rhythmically. Don't wait any further if you have ever wanted this experience.
Lessons may include:
•Sticking
•Practice with syncopation
•Awareness of rhythm in daily life
•Ability to re-create rhythms as a drummer
•How to use dynamics effectively
•Electronic versus acoustic drums
•Posture and position on the drum set to obtain maximum sound with minimal effort
•Drumming by suggesting and implying rhythm
If you have a drum set and want me to come to your residence or studio, I am open to that idea. If you prefer to come to my studio in Amsterdam, given the challenges of drumming in a residence, that can also be arranged.
